When people see something that looks on the surface to be a great trick, it takes away from the real needs and quality of what should be going on. I don’t want to bag anybody, but you go to any horse expo or demonstration and there’s a lot of bridleles, liberty riding going on, and all this sort of stuff – but you still don’t see those horses any happier than if you had the biggest bit and biggest pair of spurs you could ride in. Their feelings about what’s going on would be the same in those horses. And I think when you present these things that make people go: “Oh WOW isn’t that amazing!” it overshadows the real horsemanship that’s meant to be going on underneath all that. It muddies the waters in people’s minds what is the difference between good horsemanship and what’s good showmanship. That’s always bothered me so we’re deliberately avoided the expos.
